Next of kin

Do you need to find the next of kin?

No known next of kin?

There is no legal definition of next of kin in English law.  Sometimes the deceased may have specified a particular individual when they entered hospital, or maybe they filled in a form prior to engaging in a dangerous activity.  However, there will be many occasions when a council or a legal-executive will be given the task of resolving a recently deceased person’s affairs in the absence of any individual who knew them personally.

The dictionary defines a deceased’s next of kin as being the person or group of people they are most closely related to.  And from this definition it naturally follows that more than one relative may have an equal claim to be this person.  For example, the brother and sister of the deceased would clearly be of equal entitlement, or it may be that an only child will have several cousins, all of whom have an equal claim to be the closest blood relative.

Kindred UK can resolve all of this on your behalf and at our own risk because if we fail to locate anyone, we do not charge.  And if you need to liaise with an individual quickly, perhaps to deal with arrangements for an imminent funeral, then please specify this when you call and we will do our utmost to ensure you are put in contact with the right person in a timely manner.

Why choose Kindred UK Probate Research Ltd?

We were established in 1998 in Newcastle upon Tyne, incorporated in 2014, and have a wealth of experience and expertise that cannot be matched by new ventures that have sprung up in the wake of the success of the "Heir Hunters" TV programme.

We are a small company staffed by well-motivated and capable people.  The person that works on your task is likely to be a more accomplished probate genealogist than whichever member of staff would be assigned your job in one of the larger companies.  And when you ring, your call will not be answered by a frosty receptionist demanding a reference number.  You will be straight through to the person who is working on your behalf.

Kindred UK has a growing client base of solicitors who return to us for their probate genealogy needs on a regular basis, either to locate a particular missing heir, next of kin, or to provide a complete solution to an intestacy.

Kindred UK Probate Research Ltd holds professional indemnity insurance.
